Baltimore Ravens bent on throwing season away The Baltimore Ravens have always taken a different tack on what they needed to be a good team. In the 2000-2001 season, they used stifling defense and a pounding running game to get there to get there when everyone else seemed intent on offense. The years following, it was more of the same, and everyone in the league seemed to think you need someone who can actually throw the ball at QB. Not these guys - oh no. Kyle Boller is our MAN. Anthony Wright can do no wrong. Trent Dilfer for MVP. But what if all that magic that got them to the playoffs and even a Super Bowl in '01 was gone? Well, it is gone. The Ravens have no discernable plan, some strange front-office folks doing strange things, like watching their league-leading rusher flail all year, inserting other RB's who outperformed him, then keeping the faith and reinserting the same RB again - just to be sure. After all that, when you KNOW he lost a step, you re-sign him. |

That's what they did when they signed Mike Anderson, the back the Broncos let go without so much as seeking a trade. There may have been reason for that, too. The need for the Ravens has been and will be the QB position for a long time. Until they get their heads out of the sand and look for a slashing runner and a QB that can throw further than 3 yards, the Ravens will be what they were last year - the shadow of a great empire. |
