Josh McCown gets another well-deserved shot

The Cardinals looked at the way Josh McCown threw the ball and decided it just didn't fit their style.

I guess throwing for over 300 yards several times in the year wasn't quite good enough.

The Lions have three very good - if not excellent - receivers in Roy and Mike Williams and Charles Rogers. In fact, it's still my belief this is the best receiving corps in all of football - better than Boldin and Fitzgerald in Arizona.

McCown will thrive in Detroit if he's given the chance. That's a pretty big "if". The Lions are becoming notorious for swicthing out QB's instead of GM's (see:Millen Watch) but now they have even more reason to do so. With the addition of Jon Kitna and Shaun King, there figures to be a very indecisive new coach on the bench and this is exactly the problem McCown faced in Arizona.

When the coaches trusted him, he did well, but will they trust him here?

I don't believe Detroit management will give him the chance. I hope they do - but I don't think they will.

Kitna has proven himself a resourceful veteran. He played well two years ago in Cincinnati - but he has never proven himself to be a "big-game" QB - just a good game manager. He will not give the game away, but he's never been known for winning the game. That's what McCown brings to the table, and because he's a risk-taker, he'll end up on the bench.

It's a shame for real football fans, too, because Josh McCown is going to be one of the most talented QB's in the league someday - if only someone would hand him the ball.
